Hakone, Kanagawa · Since the Meiji era
Garden Detox Mee is a mountain inn on the edge of Hakone's volcanic springs. Come for the afternoon, the evening, or simply a long unhurried soak.
See What We OfferWhat Garden Detox Mee Holds for You
There is a particular kind of rest that comes only after lowering yourself into warm mineral water while mountain air settles around you. At Garden Detox Mee, that moment is the whole point. Everything — the food, the tatami room, the soft guidance from a host — is arranged so that you arrive at it gently and leave carrying something of it with you.
Why Guests Return
The springs beneath Hakone carry sodium bicarbonate and sulfur minerals that have drawn guests to this valley for over a century. The water is kept at its natural temperature, undiluted.
A host attends to your arrival and, where it helps, gently explains the rhythm of a bathing visit or the sequence of a ryokan dinner. Nothing is assumed; nothing is forced.
Between soaks or alongside a meal, you have access to a tatami lounge — a room with no particular purpose beyond sitting and letting the afternoon soften around you.
Our kitchen follows what the mountains offer each season. The dinner menu changes through spring, summer, the harvest months, and winter — always a few courses, always something thoughtful.
Both the covered indoor bath and the open-air rotenburo are available during every visit. Each offers a different quality of stillness — one enclosed and warm, one open to whatever the sky is doing.
If you are visiting a Japanese hot spring for the first time, a host will walk you through what to expect — simply and without fuss, so that nothing is left to guess at.
Your Visit
Three options are available: a daytime bathing visit, a full ryokan dinner and bath evening, or a half-day retreat. Each has its own particular rhythm. Look them over and see which one fits your day.
The enquiry form below is straightforward. Leave your name and email, and note roughly when you're thinking of visiting. We'll confirm availability and send you what you need to prepare.
A host greets you at the entrance. From there, the day belongs to you. Soak, rest, eat, and step back into the afternoon or evening carrying whatever sense of stillness you found here.

Garden Detox Mee sits in Yumoto, the oldest of Hakone's hot-spring towns, within walking distance of the Hayakawa river. The building has been rebuilt twice since the Meiji era — once after the 1923 earthquake, and again in 1978 — but the springs themselves have not changed.
Visits & Stays
Each is complete in itself. None requires any particular preparation or prior experience with onsen culture.
